Choosing carpet
You can keep the future cost of maintaining your carpet down by buying wisely in the first place. If you want carpeting that will last longer and will require less cleaning over the long haul, then keep these tips in mind when purchasing:
1. Start with a good pad and underlayment: get a spill trap. This is a layer of plastic between the carpet and pad that will protect the pad from spills, stains and odors. 2. Get antimicrobial protection in your carpet pad. Like the spill trap, it helps to inhibit the growth of mold and mildew, by preventing moisture from building up. Really important if you have pets, and for anyone living in a damp, humid environment. 3. Go for durability. While wool is very durable and eco-friendly to boot, the best option might be nylon or polyester. Nylon is considered the most durable in the industry. 4. Buy only carpet that has been treated with R2X stain treatment. This treatment causes any stain or moisture to bead up so that it can easily be sponged away. Whatever choice of carpet you do make should be one that is pleasing to you. However, keeping the above tips in mind will reduce future costs of cleaning your carpets.
